We wanted an intimate and personal wedding, free from the stress of paperwork and intricate planning details. Our goal was to savour a day filled with tranquillity and each other’s company. Bornholm and Wedding on the Rocks promised exactly that. We had heard about the stunning natural beauty of Bornholm from friends and colleagues, but experiencing it firsthand was even more impressive. Monika and Illian decided to have their wedding ceremony in Bornholms registry office in the ‘capital’ Rønne on the southwest coast of the island. The registrar performed the ceremony in English. Since Monika and Illian already live in Denmark, our wedding planners did not have to deal with a vast amount of paperwork in connection with their wedding ceremony. We did, however, book their date at the registry office and decorated the room according to their wishes. In addition, Wedding on the Rocks also provided the witnesses to the ceremony, as is required by Danish law.

“The room in Rønne in which the ceremony took place in was cozy, spacious and perfect for our special moment. It was the ideal setting for us to say “I do” to each other,” Monika and Illian told us after the ceremony.

If also you wish to get married in the registry office in Rønne, please do not hesitate to contact us on the form below. The registrars on Bornholm are able to perform the ceremony in English, German and Danish. During the main season, it pays to book as early as possible in other languages than Danish. This is to ensure that you can receive your preferred wedding date.

Wedding Photo Shoot at Hammershus Castle

Monika and Illian wished for an intimate ceremony at the registry office. Yet they also wanted their share of the beautiful nature and historic sites of Bornholm. The lovely newly-wed couple therefore moved on after the wedding ceremony. Their destination was one of the most majestic sites the island has to offer. Together with the wedding photographer, arranged for by the wedding planners in Wedding on the Rocks, they explored the ruins of the ancient Hammershus castle and the nature surrounding it.

Hammershus castle was originally build by the Danish church as far back as 1200 A.D. It has carried many functions throughout the centuries. Among others, it has been a castle, a fortress, a church and a prison. Most of all, Hammershus remains due to its magnificent view over the Baltic Sea a strategically important defence stronghold for Denmark. From the castle walls, one will have the most spectacular views over the Baltic Sea. While the ruins are the most popular tourist attraction on Bornholm, they also offer plenty of nooks and crooks for a newly wedded couple like Monika and Illian to find the privacy to take their wedding photos in.

Next to the rustic walls of the ruins, the beautiful nature surrounding the location offers many amazing backdrops for wedding photos. The scenery always changes with the seasons – but will never disappoint.

“Bornholm exceeded our expectations in every way. We had heard about its stunning natural beauty from friends and colleagues, but experiencing it first-hand was even more impressive. The island, though small, boasts a variety of landscapes and activities, making our stay delightful and memorable,” Monika and Illian said after the photo shoot.

Sea and Sunshine at the Harbour

From the ruins of the fortress Hammerhus, the couple moved on to the harbour close by for some additional shots that included the sea. Hammerhavn (Hammer Harbour) is a beautiful spot with jetties for visiting and resident yachts, a long pier and a small secluded sandy beach nearby. Monika and Illian could stroll around and where welcomed by some of the residents into their freshly acquired wedded life.

“Every moment of the day was special, but making friends with the wonderful team from Wedding on the Rocks and our photographer stands out. Our photoshoot at the harbour in Hammershus was breathtaking, capturing the essence of our love and the island’s beauty,”  Monika and Illian said when the shoot was over and they continued to their honeymoon.
